Quynn grew up with the natural world accessible, in her back yard. Nature always inspired her girl self.

As an adult, Quynn had the pleasure of being able to travel in Nature for a number of summers in her 30s. Nature taught her so much and inspired much creativity. During her Public Lands Tours in the summers of 2009 and 2010, Quynn discovered Birch trees in the northern lands of eastern Washington, near the Canadian border. Although she had never seen or heard of Birch bark as an artistic medium, the Birch immediately began to show Quynn how to gather, process and make art with this ancient and beautiful bark.

Quynn discovered Birch Bark in the northern lands of eastern Washington, near the Canadian border.

These white barked trees spoke to her, and showed her how to make art on its beautiful bark.

Each piece teaches Quynn about patience and trust, because she never knows how it will turn out, until it is complete.

Yet the bark knows… Birch trees have taken care of, and talked to, northern peoples around the planet for thousands of years. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berkanan
